Camping Recipes: 2-Step Camp Cooking

For camp cooking, sometimes, even 3 steps is one too many. After a day of hiking, fishing or even just relaxing by the creek, you want a quick meal, not play Julia Child. The 2-step meal suggestions in the video may be the ticket.

The secret to shortcut camp cooking is careful preparation at home.

Camping Recipes Shortcuts & Tips

The cooler is your best friend.

    * Pre-freeze or pre-cook food supplies at home as much as you can and transport them in a cooler.
    * Freeze any meat you plan to take along. It will last longer and help keep other cooler items cold.
    * Prepare soups, stews or chili ahead of time and freeze them at home. Reheat at camp for a quick and easy dinner.

Pack cooking ingredients by meal

    * Prepare your meals or ingredients before you leave as much as you can. Example, chop, marinate, pre-measure so you reduce your meal preparation to one step or two at camp.
    * Pack ingredients together. Example for the chili in the video, pack the 3 cans and the Fritos corn chips bag together. The corn chips may get crushed, but if you watch the video, that's exactly what you want.

Bring your condiments.

    * My staple condiments are: chili powder, parmesan cheese, parsley, garlic powder and salt and pepper.
    * Forget the Hollandaise sauce. A sprinkle of parmesan cheese on your tortellini is all you need to go with the beautiful sunset view.
    * Think out of the box. Never tried parmesan cheese on grilled corn? Well, it's about time.

There are so many simple AND delicious camping recipes, you can leave Martha Stewart and Julia Child at home.
